英语四级词汇讲解丨考点归纳：primarily
Many in-home jobs that used to be done primarily by women-ranging fromfamily shopping to preparing meals to doing voluntary work-still need to be done bysomeone.
英语四级译文:
过去，许多家务事主要是由女性来做的，这些事从家庭采购到准备饭菜再到一些无偿的劳动不一而足;而现在，这些工作还是需要有人来做的。
四级词汇讲解:
本句的主干是many in-home jobs need to be done。that引导定语从句，修饰jobs。
in-home jobs意为“在家做的工作”，后文的family shopping, preparing meals和voluntary work是对in-home jobs的进一步解释。
range意为“归类于;延伸”，常用在短语range from...to...之中。如:
1) The children's ages range from 8 to 15.这些孩子的年龄在8岁到15岁之间。
2) The frontier ranges from the northern hills to the southern coast.边界从北部山地一直延伸到南部海岸。
英语四级考点归纳:
注意primarily以及相关表达的用法。
※ primarily意为“起初;主要地;首先”。如:
1) This building was primarily intended to be a dinning hall.这个建筑原来是打算用做餐厅的。
2)Most linguists would say they were concerned primarily with the structure of languages.大多数语言学家都会说，他们主要研究语言的结构。
※ 除了primarily以外，表示“首先”的副词或短语还有:in the first place, at first,first of all等。有时候forone thing也可以译为“首先”。如:
It is not a good idea. For one thing, nobody will help us.那不是个好办法。首先，没人会帮我们的忙。
